MALDON & Tiptree boss Terry Spillane says hat-trick hero Brad Hunter is “starting to blossom”.

The former Burnham Ramblers front man is enjoying a purple patch and grabbed a treble in Saturday’s 4-1 success at home to Erith & Belvedere.

“Brad did exceptionally well and he’s not even fully fit yet,” said an upbeat Spillane.

“He’s a hard-working lad with a great first touch and one of his goals, especially, was superb.

“He’s got all the attributes to be a success and he wants to learn.

“He’s a step four player all day long and could maybe even play at the level above.

“People gave me a bit of stick when I signed him and I hope those same doubters have been taking notice of his recent form.

“I’m so pleased for him because he’s really starting to blossom.

“We’re playing in a certain way and with a system that’s suiting him down to the ground.

“Like all strikers, he thrives on goals and he’s a confidence-player, so this will do wonders for him.”

Spillane admitted his side had a “bit of luck” and that the final score painted a slightly flattering picture against Erith.

However, he felt they deserved their good fortune because of how hard they worked.

“Last month was a bad one for us but we’re starting to look more like our old selves again,” he said.

“Saturday’s big win had been coming and there’s a lot to be positive about.

“We’re scoring goals, our defence looked strong and our midfield is the best in the league.”
