Heybridge Swifts are relishing FA cup underdog tag
3:03pm Thursday 10th October 2013 in Local Sport
HEYBRIDGE Swifts manager Mark Hawkes says his side will relish their underdog tag in Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Bromley.
The Greater London side – second in Skrill South – will be firm favourites to win Saturday’s third qualifying round encounter at Hayes Lane.
Hawkes is confident his side can cause an upset, but more than happy for the hosts to be under pressure.
“In our first FA Cup game we were the favourites, against Basildon United,” said the Swifts boss.
“Then we had a couple of 50-50 matches against sides from our league, Maldon and Tiptree and Harlow.
“Now we’re the underdogs and I’m quite happy with that.
“Everyone is expecting us to lose, apart from those within our group and inside our four walls.
“Bromley are under heaps of pressure and that means we can go there and relax, be competitive and see where it takes us.
“We know what we’ve got to do and I’m confident we’ve got the fire-power to hurt anyone."
Meanwhile, the Essex Senior Cup third-round draw has thrown up an eye-catching tie between Swifts and Braintree Town, at the Amlin Stadium.
The match has to be played on or before November 2.
