Cash boost is an incentive for Heybridge Swifts boss Hawkes

HEYBRIDGE Swifts manager Mark Hawkes admits there is a juicy carrot awaiting his players if they can win Saturday’s eagerly-awaited FA Cup showdown at Maldon and Tiptree.
As well as maintaining their unbeaten start to the season and eliminating their main rivals, the winning club will pocket £3,000.
That’s the cash prize up for grabs for all teams who make it into the second qualifying round.
“I’m sure all the players will be raring to go,” said Hawkes, whose side surrendered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at Cheshunt on Saturday.
“It’s bound to be played at a high tempo and it’ll boil down to desire and will to win.
“There’s a big incentive and not least because we’re playing our main rivals.
“There’s also the huge matter of the prize money, which is very important to all teams during these early rounds of the FA Cup.”
Swifts are sweating on the fitness of Luke Callander and Michael Cheek.
Both were ruled out of Tuesday night’s Ryman League division one north 2-1 win against visiting Harlow.
They now face a race against time to be fit for Saturday’s cup clash at Park Drive.
“Both are struggling,” confirmed Hawkes.
