Maldon show top form
3:55pm Thursday 15th August 2013 in Local Sport
Maldon were in top form getting their second Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship division one win in two weeks.
Batting first Maldon openers Jamie Glenn (21) and Chris Harris (53) went about their business in great style to get the side going.
Harris’ knock has furthered his lead as this year’s highest run scorer at the club and again shows his class.
There were more runs from a high-scoring top order including 35 from Ian Elliot and Martyn Coker’s 20.
There was fight from further down the order with a strong 19 from skipper Jimmy Ainscough and a superb 18 not-out from Toby Pugh.
Maldon followed up a class batting performance with a great display of bowling.
Opener Phillips (24) made a start but Halstead could not withstand the mastery of Elliot (five for 31) who tore through the Halstead attack.
A sensible captain’s knock of 58 from Charlie Douglas-Hughes was the highlight of the away side’s innings.
It was a day for spin as Elliot was aided by Toby Pugh (three for 66) who showed his experience.
The Halstead batsmen made a few starts but could not get anything of real substance and Maldon bowled them out for 157.
