Maldon and Tiptree boss Spillane is delighted by McKenzie

MALDON and Tiptree boss Terry Spillane believes he has struck gold by signing “top-drawer” striker Leon McKenzie.
The experienced front man scored one and made another in Saturday’s 3-1 Ryman League division one north victory at home to Brentwood.
And after watching his new signing inspire a winning start to the season, Spillane said: “Leon’s still capable of playing Conference football.
“He’s real quality, in terms of his attitude, preparation, ability and influence, both on the pitch and off it.
“He’s not a screamer or shouter but gets his point across and leads by example.
“It’s great to have someone of his stature in our dressing room and we’re lucky to have him.”
Former Bromley, Thurrock, Hornchurch and Concord Rangers man McKenzie created Maldon’s first goal with an “outrageous” back-heel for Ben Bradbury.
The 28-year-old then added the second with a volley from the edge of the box, before Joe Gardner made it 3-1.
Maldon go to Cheshunt on Saturday before hosting AFC Sudbury next Tuesday.
