Burnham Ramblers are ready for an historic season
2:50pm Thursday 8th August 2013 in Local Sport
BURNHAM Ramblers will be making history when they get their new league campaign under way at Waltham Abbey.
Last season’s promotion from the Essex Senior League means that Saturday’s match will be the highest echelon of the footballing pyramid they’ve reached in their history.
Boss Keith Wilson has presided over their rise to the Ryman League division one north and can’t wait for the challenge ahead.
Wilson said: “It’s why we all get into football, we want to test ourselves and see how far we can go in the game.
“We’ll be prepared for the season and we’re looking forward to it.”
Wilson admits he doesn’t know a great deal about Waltham Abbey and that he may need to change his preparation for matches in the new league.
Wilson said: “I’m not a great one for watching opponents, especially in friendlies.
“That’s just the way I’ve done things up to now but that may need to change as we’ve stepped up a level.
“I am sure we’ll do well. It’s going to be a learning curve but there’s no reason why we can’t have another successful season.
“If we put in the same sort of work ethic, we’ll get the job done.”
Burnham host their first Ryman League home game next Tuesday evening.
They entertain Needham Market at Leslie Field, kick-off 7.45pm.
Ramblers have had another local derby added to their fixture list.
They have been drawn away from home to Maldon and Tiptree in the second round of the Robert Dyas League Cup.
