Maldon and Tiptree boss Spillane is ready for the new season

MALDON and Tiptree will be looking to put last season’s play-off heartbreak behind them and go one better when their season starts on Saturday.
The penalty shoot out defeat to Thamesmead Town in May left them distraught but a new campaign, starting at home to Brentwood Town, brings new hope for all at the club.
New additions have included the signings of 20-year-old midfielder Jack Stevenson, from Aveley, and experienced non-league performer Leon Mckenzie.
Maldon and Tipree manager Terry Spillane has been pleased with his side’s pre-season preparations, which has seen a 7-1 mauling of Southminster and a close 2-1 defeat to League One’s Colchester United.
Those results, plus a 1-1 draw against Ryman League premier division team Wingate & Finchley, have provided further hope that this may be the year Maldon can progress.
Spillane said: “Pre-season is about performances rather than results but it’s been very pleasing to have played the way we have.
“Good performances always lead to good results and we have to just keep on working hard.”
Brentwood Town provide the opening challenge of the season and they’re a team that Spillane knows well.
However, he maintains that his side’s focus must be on themselves before any thoughts turn to the opposition.
He said: “We’ve played them a few times but we’re not going to get bogged down with who we’re playing every week.
“We’ll concentrate on ourselves and make sure we’re ready week in, week out.”
