Burnham Ramblers sign two new players to help in their quest for the title

BURNHAM Ramblers boss Keith Wilson has re-signed two key players to help his team cross the promotion line.

Prolific striker Billy Hunt and towering centre-half Nikki Beale have both returned to Leslie Field.

Wilson believes the pair could prove major assets in his side’s quest to win the Essex Senior League title.

Ramblers are four points clear at the top and, crucially, have three games in hand on nearest challengers Great Wakering Rovers, after beating Haringey and Waltham Development 2-1 on Tuesday night. “I’ve given myself a massive selection headache but just feel we needed a couple of fresh faces and different options,” said Wilson, who played alongside Beale for Wakering.

“I expect them to have a very positive impact and the extra competition will keep everyone on their toes.

“That’s vital, because I sensed the other day that one or two of the lads were perhaps beginning to take their places for granted.

“We can’t have a situation like that.

“There’s still a lot of football to be played this season and I believe these boys are coming in at the right time, to help us across the finishing line.”

Hunt is a popular face at Burnham, having been a prolific scorer in his first spell at the club before leaving for Witham Town and then moving to Romford.

Beale, meanwhile, is a centre-half who has joined for the rest of the season.

Ramblers were left without a game on Saturday, following the postponement of their match at London APSA.

Wakering missed the opportunity to go top as they drew 2-2 against basement boys Clapton.

Burnham head to Barkingside on Saturday.
