Heybridge Swifts look to cement a play-off place

HEYBRIDGE Swifts' are looking to cement their place in the Ryman League play-off positions.

Their division one north 2-1 win over visiting Potters Bar Town on Tuesday night and their 0-0 draw with Cheshunt on Saturday has left them fifth in the table.

The results see Swifts with a seven-point lead over Soham Town Rangers in sixth spot.

Boss Mark Hawkes had mixed feelings after his side’s 0-0 draw at Cheshunt on Saturday.

But Hawkes is predicting more twists and turns in the final weeks and believes that point may prove a useful one.

“When the final whistle went, we were disappointed,” he said.

“You always feel that way when you haven’t won, especially as we’d had enough chances to take the points.

“We were a bit wasteful in front of goal.

“But, on reflection, it might prove a useful result.

“Cheshunt are on a long unbeaten run and they’ve taken points off some of the top sides, so we’ll take it and move on.”

Hawkes is expecting a tense finale to the season.

He says eighth-placed Tilbury could still gate-crash the play-off party, because they have games in hand, but believes his own side can go a long way to cementing their own top-five place by beating Wroxham on Saturday.
