Hawkes puts positive spin on Heybridge Swifts' postponed games
2:41pm Thursday 14th March 2013 in Local Sport
HEYBRIDGE Swifts boss Mark Hawkes has put a positive spin on his side’s enforced inactivity.
The Scraley Road side have had their last two games postponed because of the weather.
Saturday’s crunch Ryman League division one north encounter at home to Grays Athletic was called off, as was Tuesday’s trip to Tilbury.
However, the situation has at least given Michael Cheek time to recover from his troublesome hamstring injury and the striker should be involved in this weekend’s match at Cheshunt.
“One positive of not playing is that it’s given Michael a few more days to get fit,” said Hawkes.
“He would have played some part last night and now, all being well, he’ll be involved on Saturday.”
Hawkes has confirmed that former player Andy Tomlinson is back at Scraley Road.
The midfielder has rejoined from Blue Square South side AFC Hornchurch and would have featured against Grays on Saturday.
Tough-tackling Tomlinson is well known to Swifts fans, having made more than 130 appearances.
