Chairman Garty is philosophical about Maldon and Tiptree's title chances

MALDON and Tiptree chairman Ed Garty is philosophical about his side title’s chances.

The Ryman League division one north pace-setters had an eight-point lead at the summit before last night’s match at Soham Town Rangers.

The championship is theirs to lose but, whatever happens, Garty has hailed the efforts of his players, manager Terry Spillane and assistant boss Jody Brown.

“Terry and Jody have done a great job,” said Garty.

“When Terry was appointed I gave him a remit to get us into the play-offs.

“He’s already achieved that, but, because he’s done so well, expectations have grown.

“Now, if we don’t win the league everyone will be bitterly disappointed but really, in the cold light of day, anything more than a play-off spot will be a bonus.

“I’m very happy with the way things have gone and even if the worst happens and we don’t finish the job, I can’t complain.

“It’s been a great effort from everyone, from the players to Terry and Jody.”
