Heybridge Swifts manager Hawkes wants another 20 points for play-off spot

HEYBRIDGE Swifts boss Mark Hawkes believes his side could need another 20 points to nail down a play-off spot.

The Scraley Road team are fifth in the Ryman League division one north table with 60 points and nine clear of sixth-placed neighbours Witham.

However, Hawkes is taking nothing for granted and believes there will be plenty more twists and turns.

“We’re in a good position, but nothing is certain yet,” he said. “We’ve already seen how two defeats on the trot can see you lose ground.

“All the teams in the mix have played a different number of games and, crucially, most of us have still got to play each other.

“That means there will be plenty of twists and turns and I believe we could still need 20 points out of a possible 33.

“The title isn’t out of the question but my goal is to finish anywhere in the top five.

“Anything more will be an absolute bonus and we’ll be doing everything in our power to make sure that’s the case.”

Swifts are preparing for a big weekend as they host second-placed Grays Athletic.
