Maldon and Tiptree held to a goal-less draw

MALDON and Tiptree were held to a goal-less draw by Aveley.

The result saw their lead at the top of the Ryman League division one north cut to eight points as second-placed Grays Athletic won 3-1 against Waltham Forest.

Despite there being no goals at Park Drive it was an exciting game and it was the visitors that had the better of the play.

Maldon keeper Joe Wright had to be in great from to keep the visitors at bay.

It was almost a very bad start for the home side.

Aveley’s Michael Bakare headed the ball in the back of the net from a free-kick but the referee pulled play back for an infringement.

Wright then made a number of acrobatic saves to deny Aveley.

Joe Gardner had two chances late on to snatch a win for Maldon but his first effort was well saved while he put his second wide of the target.
