Maldon and Tiptree’s lead at the top of the Ryman League division one north table was cut to ten points when they fell to a 2-0 defeat at Cheshunt.
Maldon looked to have opened the scoring early on but the goal was ruled out for a push on the home keeper Matthew Bennett.
And it was the visitors who fell behind when David Green fired in past Maldon keeper Joe Wright.
And Cheshunt kept up the pressure on Maldon making it 2-0 before the break when Tommy Fletcher headed the ball in the back of the net from a corner.
Maldon came back strongly in the second half and almost pulled a goal back from the penalty spot but Chris Bryan put his spot-kick wide of the goal.
