BURNHAM Ramblers showed their title credentials by fighting back to sink Basildon United on Saturday.

That’s the view of proud manager Keith Wilson, who was buoyed by his side’s late fireworks in the 3-2 victory at Leslie Field.

That result, coupled with Tuuesday night's 2-0 win against Southend Manor, left Ramblers five points clear at the top of the Essex Senior League table, having turned the match on its head thanks to goals from Brad Hunter, Stuart Judd and Ricky Stubbs.

“It was a massive result that I don’t think would have happened last season,” said Wilson.

“I’m pretty certain of that, but now there’s an extra desire among my players.

“We were missing seven players because of illness and work commitments and only had three on the bench, yet still had the character to score two late goals.

“We’re really pushing for the title and were absolutely determined to get the three points.

“We certainly deserved to win, but the longer the game went on we were wondering whether it was going to happen for us.

“To then score twice in the last five minutes was fantastic and everyone, quite rightly, was buzzing afterwards.”

Ramblers have no match this weekend.
