Heybridge Swifts face a potential banana skin on Saturday, when they host Ilford.

The basement boys have only won one league game and gleaned just eight points from their 21 games.

Swifts boss Mark Hawkes said: “When you play teams like that you have to work just as hard, if not harder.

“It’s all about having the right mindset because although they might not be the best technically, they will be well-organised and work tremendously hard.”

Hawkes has completed the loan signing of Jonathan Brogden, from Chelmsford City.

The tall, quick left-sided defender can play at centre-back or left-back.

He started his career as a youth at Queens Park Rangers, before drifting into non-league with Aldershot and Woking.

“Jonathan has joined for the rest of the season, although he is dual registered and can be recalled at any time,” said Hawkes.

“He’s very highly thought of at Chelmsford and I’m sure he’ll become a very valuable addition to my squad.”
