Maldon and Tiptree boss Spillane urges his players to keep their eyes on the prize

MALDON and Tiptree boss Terry Spillane is urging his title-chasing side to keep their eyes on the prize.

The runaway Ryman One North leaders dropped their first home points of the season on Saturday, being held to a 0-0 draw at home to Waltham Abbey.

It was only the third match this season in which they have failed to score.

But with a ten-point lead at the summit, Spillane wants his players to stay focused on their championship challenge.

“We’ve got to keep our eyes on the prize,” said the Maldon boss.

“It was frustrating at the weekend but teams are upping their game against us and that’s something we’ve got to get used to.

“It was another lesson learned and maybe this will be a wake-up call, just as it was when we lost our unbeaten record at Heybridge Swifts on Boxing Day.

“On that occasion, I got exactly the right response and I’m hoping the same will apply when we go to Ware on Saturday. We’re coming to the business end of the season now and I don’t want any slip-ups.”
