HEYBRIDGE Swifts boss Mark Hawkes has hailed his side’s phenomenal goal power – but is even more pleased by their run of clean sheets.

The Scraley Road side are the form team in Ryman One North, having beaten leaders Maldon & Tiptree, hammered Redbridge 11-0 and then thumped Waltham Forest 4-0 on Saturday.

It puts them second in the table and well placed for a crack at promotion.

“We’ve kept three clean sheets in a row and that makes me just as happy, if not more happy, than the goals at the other end,” said Hawkes, whose side visit neighbours Witham Town on Saturday. “We’ve got goal power and everyone can see that.

“But there will be plenty of obstacles before the end of the season.

“I fully expect teams to pack their midfields, to frustrate us and try and stop us scoring.

“But if we’re solid at the back and manage to keep clean sheets, it will give us every chance of nicking tight games.”
