BURNHAM Ramblers are celebrating after opening a five-point lead at the top of the Essex Senior League table.

Proud boss Keith Wilson has told his players to enjoy the moment – but warned them they are there to be shot at by their rivals.

Ramblers moved to the summit courtesy of last Wednesday’s 4-1 success at Sporting Bengal United.

They then extended their lead thanks to a memorable 2-0 win at fellow high-fliers Great Wakering on Saturday. “It’s a great feeling and our dressing room was a fantastic place to be at the weekend,” said Wilson.

“Everyone enjoyed it and, judging by the conversations and text messages I’ve had since, they’re still buzzing.

“Now we’ve got to keep the feel-good factor going."

Burnham are through to the semi-finals of the League Cup - despite losing 2-1 in the second leg of their last-eight encounter against Enfield 1893 on Tuesday.

They won 3-2 on aggregate and now go into the semi-final draw, which is being made on January 16.
