ESSEX University Boxing Club teenager Reese Wade claimed a close win over Harrow’s Georgie Taylor at the Colchester Amateur Boxing Club Show, at St Benedict's School.

The 19-year-old secured another win and will now box Australian champion Jason Mallia in London, on May 4.

Wade has been studying for exams which has meant his training has been not so relentless but he used his experience and his learning in the boxing ring to edge the win.

The first round saw Taylor on his toes moving around the outside of the ring throwing his jab, trying to stay away from Wade’s combinations.

When taken to the ropes Taylor grabbed and held.

This was a common occurrence throughout the three rounds and spoilt the bout to some degree, with the referee not admonishing the Harrow boxer for the infringement.

The first round went to Taylor but Wade applied more pressure trying to land more combinations in the second and his accuracy of jab perhaps clinched this round.

It was all to play for in the final round with both boxers wanting the win and Essex University coach Gordon Charlesworth felt it could go either way but Wade claimed victory.
