MICK Seaman returned to form with a bang to win the Playgolf Colchester Medal competition.

Seaman (9) shot the lowest gross 73 (nett 64) to win division one, with good general course conditions and soft greens rewarding accurate play.

Seaman pencilled in a steady 11 pars and recovered well from five bogies, with a brace of birdies on the par-five second and par-four finishing hole.

Jack Blackman (8) carded a gross 75 (nett 67) to finish as runner-up with a steady nine pars and a trio of par-four birdies.

Jonathan Tait (10) carded a gross 78 (nett 68) to take third place with 11 pars and a handy birdie on the par-three third hole.

Ron Gilzean (14) returned to form to win division two on countback from Chitraj Limbu (17), after both players carded nett 68.

Gilzean’s card included five pars and back-to-back birdies on the par-three third and par-four fourth holes.

Limbu’s highlights came with six pars.

Matt Clark (16) carded a nett 71 to take third place, with seven pars.

John MacDonald (23) carded a superb nett 66 to win division three with four pars and a strong birdie finish.

He was a shot ahead of Adam Eaton (20), whose carded four pars and a par-four birdie on the eighth hole.

Jack Potter (20) was third, beating stalwart contender Trevor Hollingsworth (18) on countback with both carding nett 68.

Potter’s magic wand of a putter helped him conjure up seven pars with a trio on his back nine.

That put Hollingsworth, with five pars, one on the back nine, out of the podium places.

In Playgolf Seniors' stableford competition, Peter Saye (15) carded 37 points to win division one.

Runner-up was Steve Loran (10) who scored 35 points to finish ahead of Will Elder (13) on countback.

Ex-captain Michael Johnson (23) won division two with 34 points, finishing four points ahead of 2018 captain Steve Dale (24) and third-placed Colin Green (27) on 29 points.

Stephen Peeling won the only sleeve of balls for a par-three birdie.

Michael Johnson, the 2017 Playgolf Colchester Seniors Captain presented Alistair Leslie from Macmillan with a cheque for £3,205, raised throughout his tenure.

There was a good turnout for the Jeff Coles Ladies/Seniors Mixed Pairs Trophy, which was a four-ball better-ball stableford.

It was tightly-contested, with just four points separating the top-nine pairs.

The team of Linda Smith and Jerry Dalton won the Trophy with 41 points ahead of runners-up Paula Smith and Brian Hart.

They were second on countback from Jeanette Shea and Stephen Peeling, after both teams carded 39 points.

Ann Longman won the ladies nearest the pin accolade, with Brian Hart taking the senior prize.

The free for all nearest the pin hole went to senior member Greg King.

A raffle raised £167 for the Lady Captain's chosen charity, Beacon House, Colchester.

The ladies' 14-hole stableford was very well supported.

Ann Longman won division one with 25 points and two points ahead of Gina Macmillan, who finished ahead of Linda Smith on countback.

Rosalind Scott emphatically won division two with a one-under-par 29 points, finishing four points ahead of runner-up Shirley Birkin.

Birkin finished ahead of Janet Blackmore on countback.
