MERSEA Island chalked up their second Essex Canterbury Jack League 1A victory of the season following a resounding 65-7 triumph at bottom club Burnham-on-Crouch.

The Islanders were merciless to chalk up their biggest win of the season and successfully follow up their 58-5 victory over Billericay, the previous week.

It was also a good weekend for the Mersea Island Rhinos, who hosted Clacton II.

They beat the Kestrels 47-17 to make it three wins and a draw from their opening four matches, this season.

Mersea Island RFC's Junior section has now been divided into two groups - the Minis (the under-six to under-12 Foxes) and the Juniors (under-13 and upwards).

Mersea Island's Junior section continues to grow in numbers and the youngsters have picked up superbly where they left off, last season.

The club's under-13s and under-14s travelled to the Suffolk Junior Sevens at RHS Ipswich.

The under-14s won the Plate competition, an incredible show from Tom Brennan’s boys.

They followed this up with a 66-36 win over Lowestoft and Yarmouth.

Dave Bredin’s under-13 side are also settling into the feel of competition and producing some great results of their own.

Meanwhile, Mersea Juniors will provide a Guard of Honour at the Saracens-London Irish match at Allianz Park, later this month.

The club will take more than 100 people to the Aviva Premiership fixture on October 28, with 42 of them Mersea RFC Juniors.

The match will be screened on BT Sport and this will be a landmark day for the whole club in terms of profile and reward for sponsors.
