Colchester and East Essex captain Jake Foley is confident they can rack up some more wins after getting off the mark in the Shepherd Neame Essex League.

The Castle Park side claimed their maiden victory of the campaign when they defeated Upminster comprehensively last weekend and go in search of back-to-back wins in the First XI premier division when they travel to play Chingford tomorrow.

Colchester’s win over Upminster lifted them out of the bottom two ahead of their trip to Chingford, who lie just one place above their visitors in the table.

And skipper Foley now believes it is onwards and upwards for his side.

Foley told the Daily Gazette: “Now we’ve got that first win, everyone is really positive that we can now get more on the board.

“We’ve got Chingford away on Saturday who are just above us in the table and it’s another big game for us.

“It’s good to be out of the bottom two, as it’s certainly not somewhere that any of us want to be this season.

“We weren’t that worried about being there, because we know that we have enough quality to finish mid-table or better, this season.

“I think changing over to 50-over games last weekend played into our hands, as we thought it would do.”

Colchester and East Essex captain Andrew Kennedy could retain his place in the first XI squad for their game at Chingford, this weekend.

Kennedy, who has been playing predominantly for the club’s second XI this season, scored an unbeaten 22 against Upminster after returning to the fold.

“It’s always good to have him around, because of the experience he brings and his calm head,” said Foley.

“He’s been through every situation there’s been in cricket and he’s a really good person to have around.”

Colchester are also in Dukes Twenty20 Essex League group action tonight when they play their final Group B match at Belhus.

They have won all three of their group games in the competition so far, this season.

Colchester sit top heading into tonight’s match, thanks to wins over Chelmsford, Billericay and Orsett and Thurrock.

Foley added: “A win would guarantee us top spot and a quarter-final home tie, which would be ideal.

“We should be there into the next round anyway but we’ll be looking to finish the group with a win and finish top of our group.”
