COLCHESTER Croquet Club’s Golf Croquet squad won the Kingstons Wealth Management Shield for the second successive year.

They beat three other Essex clubs, in an all-day match.

The teams were drawn from Southchurch (Southend), Maldon, Chelmsford, along with Colchester.

Colchester’s fourth-seeded pair Audrey Durrani and Stephen Scrase progressed to the semi-finals.

But they were beaten in a tight game on the last hoop by Maldon Club members Pete Howe and Mary Burd.

Colchester’s first seeded pair, Marian Manning and Pam Hopper, won their semi-final to progress to a final against the Maldon pair.

It was a tight game and included a disputed ball on the last hoop that went against Colchester.

Despite the setback, Manning and Hopper still managed to pull out all stops to win the final and complete another triumphant result on behalf of the Colchester club.
