Reece Grant came off the bench to be spot on for Heybridge Swifts as two penalty kicks saw them rescue a point in the dying minutes of their Ryman League division north game against Bowers and Pitsea.

They were among three spot-kicks converted in the second half of the game at Scraley Road and saw Swifts extend their unbeaten run in the league to three games.

Jody Brown's side had to come back from a half-time deficit, though, as Brad Warner had given promotion-chasing Bowers and Pitsea the lead in the 27th minute.

That became a 2-0 advantage eight minutes after the break when Warner fired in the first of the game's penalties and Swifts had a mountain to climb.

With no change as the game headed into final five minutes, it looked as though the hosts would end the day pointless, but Grant had other ideas.

He had only joined the action as an 80th minute substitute, but stepped forward to halve the deficit from the spot five minutes from time and kept his calm in the final minute to fire home a second penalty to snatch a valuable point.

There was also a late goal in a 2-2 draw for BRIGHTLINGSEA REGENT as they held on to third place thanks to Aaron Condon's 88th minute leveller at Soham Town Rangers.

Soham had led at half-time through a goal by Ryan Horne, but that was levelled by Phil Kelly's equaliser on 76 minutes.

The hosts then looked to be taking all the points as Darren Foxley fired in with just five minutes to go, but Condon rescued a point for the visitors as the former FC Clacton striker found the target in the 88th minute.

The draw kept Brightlingsea third and ahead on goal difference of AFC Hornchurch, who moved up thanks to a 5-1 win at WITHAM TOWN.

Adam Flint's team had impressed against other high-fliers Thurrock and Bowers in their previous two games, but the Urchins proved too much.

Leon McKenzie fired in a hat-trick for the visitors and Abs Thompson and Kenzer Lee completed their scoring, while Tim Monsheju's 58th minute strike was all Witham had to show for their efforts.

While others moved up, though, there was no change at the very top of the table as leaders MALDON & TIPTREE won 4-1 at struggling Waltham Abbey.

The Jammers had Sam Newson and Liam Nash on target and two own goals completed their haul.
