NATIONAL League South outfit Chelmsford City have announced the signing of Republic of Ireland youth international striker Philip Roberts.
The 22-year-old has recently been training with the Clarets while the club waited for international clearance. However, the frontman, who has most recently starred for League of Ireland outfit, Sligo Rovers, is now a Chelmsford player and will be available for selection for this weekend’s FA Trophy second round tie at Dartford.
Manager Rod Stringer was delighted with the signing, saying: “Philip has gleaned plenty of experience, especially in Scotland, where he represented Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Falkirk, Dundee and Alloa and has been capped at both under 17’s and 19’s level.
"He had a youth career at Arsenal and adds quality to the group which is paramount in our quest for promotion.”
Roberts becomes Stringer’s second forward signing within a week, following hot on the heels of Ghanaian international, Chris Dickson.
