COLCHESTER Rovers' off-road riders contested the latest round of the Eastern Cyclocross League.

The event, hosted by the West Suffolk Wheelers Club, took place at Hardwick Heath in Bury St Edmunds.

The Wheelers laid out a varied course that included single track wooded sections, technical switchbacks, fast sweeping corners and two sets of hurdles per lap.

Rovers' under-tens and under-eights raced first on a shortened course but one which included a log, which saw riders dismount and jump each time round.

James Morrison and William Smith had another battle in the under-ten boys' race.

Morrison got the upper hand, securing a ten-second gap as the pair finished sixth and seventh respectively.

Matilda Challinor had a good ride for fifth under-ten girl, while Phoebe Ollett also went well to finish as fourth under-eight girl.

On the same course, George Davies was first Rover home in the under-12 boys' race, finishing 12th, with club-mate William Morrison about a minute back in 18th.

Chloe Ollett matched the performance of younger sister Phoebe, securing fourth amongst the under-12 girls.

Rovers' under-14 and under-16s battled it out in the Youth race, on the full course.

Oli Partner's was tenth under-16 boy, ahead of Oliver Davey-Smith while Daniel Hall was fourth in the under-14 boys' standings.

He finished ahead of club-mates Jack Emerson, Tom Carson, Aeddan Seaward and Jack Letch.

Amelia Hopper finished fourth in the under-14 female category, ahead of Zoe Swainston and Evie Stepney.

The adult racing began with the Veteran 50+ men and the Junior, Senior and Veteran women.

Peter Hall showed strongly with his 30th place while Laura Mansel-Thomas was seventh Vet woman, ahead of Anna Anderson.

The Vet 40-49 men's race boasted a strong Rovers contingent, with Alex Stepney leading them home in 18th.

Jason Taylor was next home for Rovers, four seconds and one place ahead of Ian Mansel-Thomas, with Andrew Hopper, Evan Davies, James Emerson and Chris Seaward behind them.

Rovers had a strong presence in the first point-scoring round of the London Youth Track League for 2016/17 at the Olympic Velodrome, in Stratford.

It was an excellent night's racing, with riders competing over scratch, dash, elimination and points races.

Rovers' standout performances came from Jodie Taylor and Thomas White.

White collected league points with an excellent third-place finish in the one-kilometre dash in Group Two, while Taylor chalked up her first Group One points with her fifth in the scratch race and sixth in the elimination.
