COLCHESTER 5

CITY OF PETERBOROUGH 2

East Women's League division one north

COLCHESTER skipper Natalie Davis scored four times as Colchester Ladies made it back-to-back wins with victory over City of Peterborough.

Player of the match Jemma Rix was also target in the opening minute of the game, as the hosts claimed an impressive win.

Davis said: "I'm so pleased with the performance - everyone put 100 per cent effort into the game.

"Our results reflect on how well the team is coming together.

"I look forward to playing with the same passion next week with the ladies against Harleston Magpies at home."

Colchester started strongly with Rix scoring from a short corner.

There was excellent play from Karen Harris and Sarah Rose in midfield, who held the centre channel to drive the ball into the attacking D.

That allowed Frankie Harley to take possession and pick out Davis, who scored Colchester's second goal.

City of Peterborough fought back and scored just before half-time, despite excellent defending from Liz Pope, Beth Probert and Lorraine Fitch.

But after a spurring half-time team talk from head coach Wayne Masters, Colchester started the second half strongly.

Pippa Garbutt's excellent play saw her drive the ball into the D and pass to Kelly Burnell, who was denied superbly by the City of Peterborough keeper.

However, Davis made it 3-1 when she took a reverse hit from the deflection.

Colchester continued to push hard and Libby Knifton's impressive play in the centre saw her drive the ball up the pitch and take a strike towards Davis, who scored from a deflection within the D.

City of Peterborough continued to fight back and drove the ball back into the Colchester defensive D, where they were awarded a penalty flick.

And despite excellent play from keeper Emma Painter, she was unable to prevent the visitors from scoring their second goal.

However, Colchester maintained the pressure, and Nicole Benfield drove the ball up the pitch with support of midfielders Knifton and Rose.

Rix took a shot on goal which was deflected mid air by Davis, who scored Colchester’s final goal of the match to wrap up a great win.
