DEREK Manister, Robin Kilburn and Ken Ellsmore made up the winning team as Playgolf Colchester seniors played a Texas Scramble.

They posted an excellent score of 63.3 to finish ahead of runners-up Will Elder, Paul Woods and Peter Hughes, who scored 63.8.

Geoff Tredgett, Peter Saye and Les Hearsey were third with 64.2.

The Texas scramble format is a good opportunity for players to play from different positions that they may not otherwise play from.

It is held in a more relaxed atmosphere and everyone was talking of a good day's golf.

Carol Farrance earned a two-shot handicap cut by carding a fantastic 41 points to win division one of the Ladies September stableford competition.

Her nearest rivals, Pauline Coxon and Judith Peeling, were four points off the pace but still scored well with a very respectable 37 points each.

The countback decision for second place went in Coxon's favour.

Division two was very tightly contested, with Playgolf vice-captain Maureen Dale winning on countback.

She held off Pauline Jordan after both players carding 37 points while Catherine Le Tue was third, with 36 points.
