LOWESTOFT 1

COLCHESTER 1

East Women's League division one north

SKIPPER Natalie Davis's strike secured Colchester a draw at Lowestoft.

Davis struck just before half-time to make it back-to-back draws, at the start of the season.

Captain Natalie Davis said: "Everyone worked really hard this weekend.

"The results show that we are really working together as a team.

"I'm really pleased with this result and am looking forward to playing St Ives at home, this weekend."

The game started at a high tempo, with Colchester enjoying the lion's share of the play and making a number of attacks down the left-hand flank.

There was some calm passing round the back from defenders Liz Pope, Frankie Harley and Lorraine Fitch, who also made some promising attacking moves from left-back.

Unfortunately, decisions did not go in Colchester's favour and a string of short-corner decisions for both teams were apparently missed by the officials.

Despite this, Colchester battled on for the rest of the first half but Lowestoft took the lead, following a short corner. However, the visitors responded with an equaliser shortly before the break through Davis, who scored after she had been picked out by Gemma Rix following a penalty corner.

Colchester brought the tempo up the second half and enjoyed all of the play.

Some great midfield performances from player-of-the-match Sarah Rose, along with Pippa Garbutt, Nicole Benfield, Bethan Probert and Karen Harris, gave the visitors the edge.

But despite multiple chances for the likes of Davis, Rix and Kelly Burnell, Colchester could not find a way past Lowestoft's goalkeeper who kept the home team in the game.

Despite numerous short corners the away side just could not force a winner and the spoils were shared.
