COLCHESTER and District Fencing Club's Alexander Brincklow won gold at the Suffolk Open boys' under-13 Foil competition.

He beat fellow CADS member Rory Myatt 10/7 in the final at the event, staged in Ipswich.

Brincklow sailed through the poules winning all of his fights, only dropping a few hits.

Myatt lost one poule fight to his CADS club-mate, winning all the rest of his poule fights.

Both Brincklow and Myatt had convincing wins through the tableau to reach the final.

In an all-CADS final fencing for the gold medal, Brincklow took an early lead.

But Myatt was not giving up without a fight and managed to level the match, by the end of the first period.

In the second period, Brincklow took command of the match again landing some fine flick hits.

Myatt scored some further attacks but Brincklow steadily increased his lead to win and leave younger fencer Myatt with the silver.
