Macauley Bonne has handed Colchester United a boost after signing a new two-year deal with the club.

The Zimbabwe international has committed himself to the U's until the summer of 2018, after agreeing the new contract.

Bonne has made 62 appearances for Colchester, scoring 13 goals.

But the 20-year-old has so far only started 22 matches for the U's and the striker will be looking to establish himself in John McGreal's starting line-up, next season.

In agreeing the new contract Bonne follows in the footsteps of team-mate Sammie Szmodics, who signed an extension to his current deal yesterday keeping him at the club until 2019.
