COLCHESTER Swimming Club created club history after topping the medal table at the regional finals in Luton.

Martha Duley, Ellie Duley, Olivia Norman, Abbie McCarthy, Sophie Freeman and Asma Parker will now represent the club at the National Championships, following the club's impressive showing at the three-day event where they topped the medal table for the first time.

Freeman was stand-out performer overall after claiming the Don Neate Memorial Trophy for the best performing swimmer at the gala, while Olivia Norman secured second spot in her age group.

Colchester SC head coach Michelle Young was delighted with every swimmer who represented the club, from those who claimed medals to those who ensured personal bests.

She said: "I've never been prouder of them - they supported each other through every heat and final."

Ciara Wookey got the day off to a great start with silver and personal best (PB) in the 200 metres breaststroke, while Freeman and Anita Tien were first and third respectively in the 11/12 age group 50m butterfly.

Parker was third in the 13 year-old age group with Olivia Norman third in the 14 year-old category.

Colchester's girls' squad then went into overdrive, with Freeman winning the 200m Individual Medley, 100m freestyle and the 200m backstroke.

The 200m IM was also a great event for Tien and Olivia Norman who were both second in their respective races, while Charlotte Norman claimed an excellent third in the 200m backstroke, an amazing achievement as she is only 11 years old.

Charlotte’s older sister, Olivia, continued with her great form, winning the under-14 200m backstroke.

The second day of swimming started where the first had left off for Colchester, with Freeman winning the energy-sapping 400m freestyle and Charlotte Tree finishing fourth.

Colchester then claimed the top-four places in the 400m IM, through Freeman (first), Charlotte Norman (second), Lucy Morgan (third) and Wookey (fourth), while Olivia Norman claimed an excellent silver medal.

The medals continued to pour in for Colchester, with Freeman claiming gold in both the 200m fly and 100m backstroke.

Olivia Norman (first), Parker (second) and Charlotte Norman (third) all performed well in their respective age groups in the 200m fly.

Morgan was an impressive second in the 100m backstroke while Freeman and Morgan continued their dominance with a first and third place in the final event of the day.

Colchester's swimmers knew that they needed to maintain their high standards on the final day of action if they were to top the medal table.

Freeman (first) and Tree (fifth) impressed in the 800m freestyle, before Freeman claimed gold in the 100m fly and 50m backstroke.

Parker was third in the 100m fly and Wookey claimed a well-earned silver in the 50m breaststroke, to complete an excellent regional finals for Colchester.

Niamh Higgins, Rebecca Girolami, Ben Hardy, Alexander Williamson and Amber Jordan also performed well for Colchester.
