THE Forrester Park ladies team produced yet another fine effort in the final of the Essex Ladies County Golf Association bronze shield.

Starting as very much the underdogs against Stoke by Nayland on neutral ground at Thorpe Hall, they played some fine golf, encouraged by the support of a large contingent of Forrester Park members who had made the journey to Thorpe Hall.

After four games the scores were level at two games all and a win in the fifth for Forrester Park set up a close finish.

Stoke by Nayland, however, proved to have better strength in depth to win the final two games and take the match by 4-3.

The veterans had a guest day which was played in ideal weather with the course in excellent condition and with a generous full handicap allowance leading to some outstanding scores.

The winner was Chris Hurrell with his partner John McDonagh, who amassed 53 points.

Mike Manning, with partner Brian Smith, took second place with 49 points, with Jeff Atkinson and partner Peter Stuart taking third place with 47 points.

The ladies’ competition this week was a combined stableford which was won by Anona Straker and Jenny Frost with an amazing score of 80 points.

Margaret Tristan and Jean Perrott took second place with 69 points, beating Irene Hoffmann and Mel Kuhl on countback.

The men’s Sunday competition for the Bill Rodman trophy was won by Mark Jeffrey with 43 points with Geoff Valentine in second place with 42 and Chris Hurrell beating Pat Crace on countback for third place, both with 40.
