CHELMSFORD Amateur Boxing Club members celebrated a successful season with the club’s presentation night.

About 60 boxing fans attended the event at Chelmsford City FC’s Don Walker Suite on Friday, where they watched last season’s trophy winners receive their prizes and hear about the club’s future plans.

Club matchmaker Graham Park told the audience: “Our boxers have accomplished a 70 per cent win ratio this season which is up there with best clubs in the country.

“And that has to be down to the great training and atmosphere created by our two trainers Dave Hull and Dave Hubble.”

Park added that it had been his first season arranging bouts for the club’s boxers and he had enjoyed the experience, despite it being stressful at times.

The gym will re-open in August as the club’s boxers prepare for the new season, the novice championships, junior ABAs and other tournaments.

Chelmsford’s annual charity boxing event will be at Boreham House on November 26. The club’s open show will be at the Marconi Club on February 6, 2015, and a special dinner show will be staged at Chelmsford City FC on May 20, 2015.

Winners of trophies, presented by Nathan Jenner (SMB Group) and Paul Mercer (Kestral Maintenance) were: Louie O’Doherty (Davis Memorial Cup for best all round boxer, Graham Burrell Cup for best junior boxer and Joseph Hull Memorial Trophy for boxers’ best boxer award), Akib Baig (Bob Miller Cup for best senior boxer), Matt Saunders (Supporters Cup for most improved boxer and Moat House Cup for best home performance), Forrest Whittlesey (Tina Davis Cup for best first year schoolboy), Freddie Tuck (best newcomer), Harvey Theedom and Archie Dines (future star award), Louis Theedom (sick note of the year Award).
