IN 2009, Five Lakes lost one of its finest members, president and past captain Alan Riches.

To commemorate him Five Lakes hold the Alan Riches Memorial Trophy open to all members and sections of the golf club in a better ball pairs competition, with men, ladies, juniors and senior sections are represented.

All proceeds of this event are shared between Alan’s charities, St Helena’s Hospice and the Wooden Spoon, the RFU charity for under-privileged children. Thirty-four pairs took part to make the competition a very competitive event.

Two pairs from the junior section returned competitive scores, Jack Garnett and Connor Perkins with 37 points followed by 36 points from Junior captain Joe Hart and Joss Saunders and Five Lakes’ current vice captain Nigel Popper and Richard Hardy-King.

Second place overall went to Phil Robson (9) and Clive Weir (19) with 39 points, beating John Mayle (14) and Ian Cottee (8) on countback, Robson and Weir’s 19 points on their back nine holes claimed the place.

Holders of the Alan Riches Memorial Trophy for 2015 are Matt Foot (5) and Billy Coe (4) with an outstanding 41 points.

Julie and Ron Dent won the Skylark Trophy for the third consecutive year with 40 better-ball points.

Five Lakes Lady Captain Sarah Mann, partnered by seniors captain Richard Taylor, took second place with 36 points.
