TIPTREE Jobserve Bowls Club kicked off the new season with a club drive.

For those who had mis-spent the winter enjoying the indoor version of the game, the heavy outdoor surface took time to get to grips with, and many a wood ended its journey woefully short of its intended destination.

However, persistence paid off and by the end of the afternoon the jacks were being rattled about once again.

Margaret Lawrence emerged as the worthy winner.

The club hosted the first of this season’s friendly fixtures, on Saturday, against Royal Mail (Colchester), with six teams of mixed triples from each club doing battle in a hard fought match.

The Tiptree team came out on top on the green.

In a bid to attract new members, the club is holding a Play Bowls Fun Day on May 16, from 10am until 5pm, at its green at Warrior’s Rest, Maypole Road.

The event will be opened by the Mayor of Colchester and refreshments will be available in the newly refurbished club house all day.

A second Fun Day will be held on May 17, during the same opening times. If you would like to have a go, then entry is free on both days and you just need to bring a pair of flat shoes. All other equipment will be provided.

Further Play Bowls 4 Fun sessions will be held on May 18, 21, 25, 29 between 6pm-9pm.
