Macauley Bonne's first-half strike proved only a consolation as Colchester United's under-21s were beaten 2-1 at home by Huddersfield Town this afternoon.

Bonne, Tosin Olufemi and Jack Marriott all featured for the U's in the Professional Development League Two game at Florence Park.

Colchester also ran the rule over Norwich City youngster Ben Burgess in the game.

And West Ham United academy player Decarrey Sheriff, along with former Hammers youth player Ben Marlow, were also looking to impress the U's.

Bonne converted an Olufemi cross for Colchester just before the half hour mark, to give the hosts a half-time lead.

But Huddersfield dominated the second half and equalised just after the break through Duane Holmes, following good work by Rekeil Pyke.

And the pair linked up again later in the half when Holmes turned provider for Pyke to score what proved to be Huddersfield's winner.

Colchester's under-21s are also in action on Thursday when they host Bristol City at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, kick-off 2pm.
