Braintree's Aleasha Kiddle secured a top-12 finish at bobsleigh racing’s most iconic venue in the latest round of the FIBT World Cup.

The 22-year-old former Braintree and District Athletic Club star, together with Great Britain team-mate Mica McNeill, finished in 12th place on the historic track at St Moritz in Switzerland.

It followed 12th and 11th places at the previous two rounds of the World Cup in Germany at Altenberg and Konigsee and saw Kiddle continue her impressive first season in the sport after being talent-spotted at a selection event last year.

Kiddle was brakewoman behind 21-year-old driver McNeill in the two-women’s bobsleigh event at the St Moritz track, which was the birthplace of bobsleigh racing and has a vertical drop of 130 metres over its 1.7 kilometre length, with an average gradient of 8.14 per cent.

The British duo had a steady opening in the first of their two heats, with a small error coming off the famous horseshoe curve costing valuable time as they stood 12th at the halfway stage and 1.10 seconds off the pace of the leaders.

A small skid cost more time in the upper section of their second run, but McNeill drove a strong lower half of the track to give them a solid finish.

However, it wasn’t enough to lift them up the overall standings and saw Kiddle and McNeill placed 12th overall at the end with an aggregate deficit of 2.35 seconds on the eventual winners, Germany’s Anja Schneiderheinze and Annika Drazek.

The British pairing will now look to build on their performance when the World Cup heads to La Plagne in France this weekend.
