National title and GB role for Dowsett

ALEX Dowsett has been selected for the Great Britain team for the World Championships.

The Team Sky rider, from Cocks Clark, is in the road race and time-trial squad for the event in Limburg, the Netherlands, from September 15-23.

For the road race squad, of which only nine will start, he is joined by Bradley Wiggins, Adam Blythe, Mark Cavendish, Steve Cummings, Andy Fenn, Chris Froome, Peter Kennaugh, Jeremy Hunt, Luke Rowe, Ian Stannard, Ben Swift, Jon Tiernan-Locke and Geraint Thomas.

Wiggins has passed on the chance to be involved in the individual time-trial following his win in the Tour de France and exertions at the Olympics.

So Dowsett, who successfully defended his British National Time-Trial title on Sunday, will line up with Froome and Thomas for the chance to represent Great Britain, with only two riders making the start line.
