Spillane keeps his feet on the ground

TERRY Spillane is keeping his feet on the ground after his Maldon and Tiptree side hit 13 goals in two games.

The Park Drive boss saw his team to a 4-1 Ryman League division one north win against Soham Town Rangers and a 9-1 win against London APSA in the FA Cup preliminary round over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Saturday’s FA Cup win at Park Drive started the goal avalanche, including hat-tricks from strikers Jamie Guy and James Robinson.

But Spillane wasn’t getting carried away with his team’s success.

He said: “While the FA Cup is brilliant we are now back to the bread and butter of the league.

“Our job here is to make the play-offs and there is still a long way to go.”

Looking at the condition of his team and the way they are playing, Spillane is in confident mood.

He added: “We are exactly where we want and expected to be. Jody (Brown – assistant manger) and me have a tough job to do now in selection.

“We left some players out of the squad and players have come in and played well.”

Maldon and Tiptree travel to Potters Bar Town on Saturday.
