Striker Guy is happy to be at Maldon and Tiptree

JAMIE Guy is refusing to look too far into the future after signing for Maldon and Tiptree.

The former Colchester United striker joined last week and scored his side’s leveller in their 2-2 draw at Aveley on Saturday.

Guy has signed a season-long deal after turning down offers from Billericay Town and Bishop’s Stortford.

He also had the chance to stay at Braintree Town and prove his fitness during pre-season at the Amlin Stadium.

However, he was more than happy to commit to Maldon.

And while excited by the challenge ahead, his previous injury setbacks have taught him never to look far into the future.

“I’m happy to be here but I’ve had a lot of setbacks injury-wise,” he said.

“I told Braintree I needed to go out and get a run of games under my belt and Maldon is ideal as it’s close to home and I know (assistant boss) Jody Brown.

“I’ve worked with him in the past and he’s an excellent coach.

“My fitness is lacking but I’ll be doing everything possible to put that right, to get back to where I want to be.”

Guy has endured a string of injuries, including a horrific broken leg during a game for Braintree at Eastleigh in February 2011.

He was left with a double open leg fracture and broken tibia and fibula which left his career in serious jeopardy.

Maldon beat visiting AFC Sudbury 3-1 on Tuesday night and entertain London APSA on Saturday in the preliminary round of the FA Cup, before playing host to Soham Town Rangers on Bank Holiday Monday (kick-off 3pm).
