Burnham Sports lose out

Burnham Sports’ first team were playing at home to Stock in the T Rippon Mid Essex League first division and, despite looking in control for long periods, were left to reflect on a 23-run loss.

Stock, having decided to bat, looked in big trouble at 55 for five but batted out their overs and managed to reach 172 all out.

Robin Whittaker, enjoying a dream season, picked up five for 45 – his first ever five-wicket haul for the club, having previously taken four on eight occasions.

Ali Allchin (three for 47) and Jamie Hamilton (12-5-32-2) shared the other wickets between them.

A target of 173 shoud have been within Burnham's capabilities and, when 124 for four with Joel Whittaker (51) and Allchin (16) ticking along comfortably, they looked firmly on course.

However, both succumbed to indifferent shots and, after that, Sports lost their focus and ended up being dismissed for 149. They still had more than nine overs left to bat.

This Saturday, Burnham travel to Southweald.
