Heybridge Swifts secure a win against a Dagenham and Redbridge XI

HEYBRIDGE Swifts took on a youthful Dagenham and Redbridge side at Scraley Road and won 2-0.

The home side enjoyed the best of the opening exchanges and Shane Stamp went close on 15 minutes as his shot was just tipped over.

Chris Moore then headed over shortly afterwards from a Luke Callander cross.

And Swifts’ pressure finally paid off when they took the lead following a fine passage of play between Callander and Stamp left Michael Cheek to tap home from close range on 26 minutes.

More chances fell to Swifts as Stamp went close on two further occasions, with one finely saved and another just going over the bar.

After the break, the home side continued to pressurise the visitors’ goal.

Swifts went close to doubling their lead when second-half substitutes Chris Ribchester and Ben Newson combined but the Daggers keeper saved down low to his right.

Newson went close on 70 minutes with the keeper again saving well.

But Swifts finally broke through in the second half to wrap up victory with their second in the 89th minute.

A powerful Callander free-kick was parried and Ribchester was on hand to score.

Swifts continue their pre-season campaign on Saturday when they travel to take on Steve Tilson’s Canvey Island side.
