Ramblers get set for a flurry of fixtures

BURNHAM Ramblers boss Keith Wilson believes his side are ready to ramp up their preparations for the new Essex Senior League campaign.

The club are preparing for three friendlies in six days, before the big kick-off on August 4.

Kelvedon pay a trip to Leslie Field tomorrow night, followed by a trip to Harold Wood on Saturday and then another home game against East Thurrock next Tuesday.

And Wilson believes his side’s preparations are going well, especially after beating Southminster 2-1 on Saturday to retain the Ted Havers Memorial Trophy.

“It was a good game and an excellent work-out,” said Wilson.

“We were definitely the better side in the first half and should have been more than two-up by the interval.

“But Southminster finished strongly.

“I made a few changes and the players didn’t know each other so well, which was probably a contributory factor.

“It was nice to win and retain the trophy, though.

“There was a good turn-out of spectators and we didn’t pick up any injuries, so it was successful all round.”

An own goal and then a close-range effort from Charlie Kirby gave Ramblers a 2-0 lead, in a match played on the outside pitch at Leslie Field.

Simon King’s penalty then halved the deficit.
