Maldon and Tiptree sign new players
2:55pm Thursday 5th July 2012 in Sport
MALDON and Tiptree have made ten new signings.
The Ryman League division one north side are making wholesale changes, with well-known Essex non-league players Chris Bryan, Dave Wareham and James Robinson among those to have put pen to paper on Monday night.
Others to have joined include centre-half Tom Spillane, the son of boss Terry.
“I’m very happy to be able to announce these signings,” said Spillane senior, who hopes to start the season with a squad of between 20 and 22 players.
“My brief is to get the club into the play-offs at least and I believe we can do that, especially with these lads now on board.
“There will definitely be more signings at tonight’s training session and, at the moment, everything is so positive.
“Our first session went really well – better than expected, in fact.
“There was a lot of talent on display and the feedback was excellent.”
Bryan will be particularly well-known to local non-league followers, having been a prolific goal-scorer for neighbours Heybridge Swifts before leaving last season for Chelmsford City.
He previously worked with Maldon assistant boss and head coach Jody Brown at Halstead Town.
Left-sided midfielder Dave Wareham is a former Colchester United trainee who was recently at AFC Sudbury, while ex-Witham Town striker James Robinson was with Spillane at Redbridge.
Others to have committed themselves include Spillane junior, former Redbridge goalkeeper Joe Wright, midfielder Lewis Dark, former Leyton Orient centre-half Scott Honeyball, striker Joe Gardner and Cambridge City winger Ben Bradbury.
The tenth name on the list is no-nonsense centre-half Glen Golby, who was also Spillane’s captain at Redbridge.
Maldon’s first pre-season friendly is away to Barkingside on July 19.
