Leno is honoure by FA award

MARTIN Leno has been honoured by the Essex FA.

Leno has been awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Community Football Award for his efforts on behalf of the Blackwater and Dengie Youth and Mini-Soccer League and Burnham Ramblers FC.

The 66-year-old from Mayland received the award as part of the FA Community Awards 2012.

The county stage of the national awards has started the search for deserving clubs, coaches, players and volunteers who play a vital role in their communities, and Essex’s winners now progress as nominees for the regional equivalent.

Once the regional winners have been established, national winners will be selected by a panel likely to include Sir Geoff Hurst, Sir Trevor Brooking and members of the national media.

Leno said: “It is a great honour to get this award.

“It was a total surprise, I didn’t know that I had been nominated and it was a bit of shock when I was told.”
