Awards round off a successful season for Maldon Rugby Club

MALDON Rugby Club rounded off their successful season at the Essex County RFU presentation evening.

The club’s second team picked up their award for winning the Essex Merit Table division four title.

Also the Drapers Chase-based club was awarded RFU Whole Club Accreditation.

The Club Accreditation scheme is based upon the six key drivers identified as crucial to a strong club, retaining and developing players; recruiting new players; recruiting and retaining high quality coaches, volunteers and referees; effective and efficient facilities; effective and efficient management and governance and integration with the local community.

Club secretary Simon Peacock said: “It was a nice way to round off the season. The seconds did really well to win the title.

“Our first team were also very successful as they finished second in Essex League division one and narrowly lost their play-off match for promotion. And we also got a third team out regularly.”

Peacock is hoping the club can build on that success next season: “We hope the first team can go one further and win promotion next year.

“Also we have entered the third team into division eight of the Essex Merit League, so hopefully they can have a few more games.”
