MALDON and Tiptree have solved a potential goalkeeping problem by snapping up Colchester United youngster Shaun Phillips.
The Park Drive club will be without regular number one Scott Stevens for Saturday’s trip to Ware because he has work commitments.
Instead, Maldon have turned to the U’s and Flanagan is looking forward to casting his eye over the highly-rated Phillips.
“It’ll be a good test for Shaun, who’s a second-year apprentice at Colchester,” he said. “I’m all for giving young players a chance in the team and it’s great that we’ve got such a good relationship with the U’s.
“Initially, we’ll see how things go this weekend but it might be that he plays for us again before the end of the season.
“Scott may pick up an injury or be unavailable again.”
Maldon head into tomorrow’s game on the back of a stunning 2-0 victory at promotion-chasing Enfield Town last Saturday.
It was the perfect response to a shock 3-2 defeat suffered against struggling Ilford the previous Tuesday.
Maldon midfielder Jack Stevenson has joined Ryman League premier division side Aveley.
