TIPTREE United manager Steve Wheeler is determined that the club will end its Essex Senior League days on a high note.

The Jam-makers announced last week that they will be withdrawing from the league next year, with uncertainty remaining over the club’s future direction.

They had made a good start to that process over the last few games, with three wins from four outings but lost out 2-1 when they entertained Bowers and Pitsea on Tuesday night.

And Wheeler wants to return to winning ways when they host promotion-chasers Bethnal Green United tonight and in their final game against another side vying for league honours, Enfield 1893, at Park Drive in Maldon, on Saturday.

“It would be great to get another couple of wins and a few more points,” said Wheeler. “At the end of the day, Tiptree are folding and this will be their last bit of football so it would be nice if we left them in the top half. A couple of weeks ago it looked like we were going to end up in the bottom three.”

Tiptree’s strong end-of-season run of form continued as they won 1-0 at bottom side Mauritius Sports Association on Saturday.

Andy McAllister’s lone goal from a corner in the 12th minute was enough to give the Jam-makers all three points.

Wheeler said: “It was another three points and a third win from four.

“We played well against Barkingside last Thursday and even them scoring two late goals didn’t dampen that (5-3) win.

“I know Mauritius are bottom, but you still have to win the game.

“If we can continue our good run and push up towards the top half, I think that will be an achievement for us as we haven’t had any budget.”

The uncertainty over what the future holds for Tiptree means Wheeler is unsure about what his plans are for next year with the club’s role alongside Maldon Town and he said he will make a decision once the season is completed.

He added: “I don’t know what is happening or who is taking over (at Maldon Town). I’ll just see what happens over the summer.

“I will see the season out and see what happens then.”
